This spring, the Notre Dame baseball club is set to play in one of Major League Baseball’s true cathedrals. The following release is provided by the University of Notre Dame:
The Red Sox and Boston College announced that on Friday, May 19, the first day of a three-game series between the Irish and the Eagles, the Eagles ALS Awareness Game 2023 will take place at Fenway Park. Notre Dame will play Boston College in the final series of the 2023 regular season May 18-20, with the first innings taking place on Friday at 7:00 pm.
Boston College’s annual ALS Awareness Game is held in honor of former British Columbia baseball team captain Pete Frates, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2012 and tragically passed away in 2019 at the age of 34. Frates was the driving force behind the viral Ice Bucket Challenge on social media. , where his efforts helped raise $220 million for research to find a cure for ALS. To this day, they continue to honor Frates and his legacy by supporting those who continue to fight ALS.
General admission tickets for the 2023 ALS Awareness Game at Fenway Park will be available at a later date. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Peter Frates Family Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps ALS patients and their families pay for the specialized home care needed to stabilize a patient’s condition as the disease progresses.
