Ocon happy to see Alonso leaving Alpine

Esteban Ocon fired a parting shot at former Alpine teammate Fernando Alonso, claiming the Spaniard did little to nothing to push the team forward.

Alonso will join Aston Martin next year and has already predicted that his new team could beat Alpine in 2023.

The Spaniard was increasingly critical of Alpine and his teammate in the final races of this year’s season.

At the penultimate stage of the Brazilian Grand Prix, he and Ocon collided during a sprint race and blamed each other.

When asked if he needed to patch things up with Ocon, Alonso said: “No, not really. I do not need it. It’s another race, and then everything, finally!

Ocon was disappointed with Alonso’s handling of the situation and hinted that it would be better for the team if he competed elsewhere next year.

Speaking to the French press ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Okon said: “Of course I was disappointed that his comments were made in the press and not within the company. We didn’t have any discussions about it. the respect I have for him.

“It’s good that he goes to Aston Martin, and we go our own way. To be honest, the work was 98 percent mine and 2 percent his. I’m overtired. trips.”

Accusations of Alonso being a bad influence behind the scenes haunted him throughout his F1 career.

Frenchman Pierre Gasly will join Okon next year.

There are questions about how well this partnership will work out, as Ocon and Gasly have had ups and downs in their relationship since they raced go-karts together as kids.
