ONE 164 results, videos: Brandon Vera retires after TKO loss, Jarred Brooks wins title

Brandon Vera retired from the sport after losing to Amir Aliakbari on Saturday’s ONE Championship 164 card in Manila, Philippines.

In the penultimate MMA fight on the card, the longtime MMA veteran returned against Aliakbari, and it didn’t end well for the former UFC fighter. Vera, the ex-ONE champion, began throwing jabs from the outside, while Aliakbari patiently waited for the right moment to shoot for a takedown. Once Vera was on his back, Aliakbari landed a series of vicious punches and elbows that forced referee Herb Dean to call the finish a TKO.

Vera announced his retirement from the sport following the loss, which was his third consecutive ONE cage loss.

In the main event, Jarred Brooks fought for the strawweight championship against Joshua Pachio. The Monkey, who lost a split decision to eventual UFC champion Deiveson Figueiredo during a brief UFC run, took on Pacio in Manila, winning the belt via unanimous decision after five hard-fought rounds. Brooks has been undefeated in seven fights since leaving the UFC in 2018.

The show’s early potion earned four performances for Hu Yong, Jeremy Pakativ, Gianlo Mark Sangiao, and Tagir Khalilov, each receiving $50,000 for their wins.
