Christian Lee is now a two-division ONE title holder after defeating Qiamrian Abbasov at ONE on Prime 4 in Singapore.

Lee, having moved from the ONE lightweight division (170 pounds) he manages, struggled with exhaustion and a nearly stoppage in the opening frame to rally for a TKO win at 4:20 of round 4.

Abbasov weighed in at 186.25 pounds, over the welterweight title limit of 185 pounds, and was subsequently stripped of the belt. Only Lee was allowed to win the belt if he won, and he initially appeared to have bitten off more than he could chew against his heavier opponent.

Punching didn’t have much of an effect on Abbasov early in the fight, and his counterattacks repeatedly hurt the lightweight champion. In the first, a left hook knocked Lee off his feet and the challenger appeared to be off his feet as he staggered back after getting back on his feet. Referee Herb Dean gave Lee more leeway, setting up a change of momentum as Abbasov was tired.

Lee, brother of ONE Lightweight Champion Angela Lee, was not at his best when the fight went into deep water. Both men’s performance plummeted, and the action came in fits and starts as the effects kicked off at a frenetic start. It was Lee’s heart that was on display as he continued to press the action, and where his punches had little effect, his elbows did the trick as he slammed into his opponent by more than half a dozen.

Abbasov finally couldn’t take it anymore when he hit the canvas and Lee took the mount to finish the job, watering down the shots until Dean intervened.
