Packers’ Aaron Rodgers plans to play vs. Bears despite rib injury, says MRI returned ‘good news’

With Aaron Rodgers injured and the Packers on life support, Green Bay has multiple reasons. consider keeping a star quarterback on the bench to get an extended look at Jordan Love’s backup. Just don’t tell Rogers about it. Two days after losing to the Eagles on Sunday night, the current MVP said: “The Pat McAfee Show” On Tuesday, he plans to dress for a Week 13 game with the Bears, citing “good news” from the MRI.

“Well, we’re not out,” Rodgers said of the Packers’ postseason hopes. “And I got some good news with the scans yesterday, so I’m planning on playing this week.”

Rodgers said earlier Sunday that after Green Bay lost 4-8, he hopes to stay at center until the team is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. However, he admitted to McAfee that even with an expected comeback against Chicago, he struggled with “a lot of pain” from two different hits against the Eagles.

“Earlier in the game there was a shot that shook the chest,” he said. “And I was trying to stretch a little at halftime, and I realized that it probably wasn’t some kind of muscle injury. And then I got hit again in the third quarter and it was hard for me to breathe. I mean, I’m proud that I don’t get out of the games… but I was in a lot of pain and I just felt like I couldn’t move there much at all.”

Rodgers, who also played with a fractured right thumb, said he could miss practice on Wednesday, but this week’s limited participation won’t necessarily prevent him from playing.

“We have a chance to play the last five matches and see where we are after that,” he said. “Look, if we were 8-4, 4-8, 12-0, 0-12, I’d like to dress up this week, and not just because it’s Chicago. Because that’s what you do… If you can go there and compete, you can go and play.”

In the meantime, Love could work with some of the Packers’ first-team QB team. The former first-rounder helped Rodgers big on Sunday, winning 6-of-9 with a touchdown pass to Christian Watson in the team’s 40-33 loss.
