The 2020 first-round pick continues to bring success, stealing the line from former Packers coach Mike McCarthy.

“Jordan, what he’s been able to put together in the last few workouts is impressive,” LaFleur said after Family Night on Friday. “We need it to keep growing every day.”

It’s been an impressive week for Love, which has brought together one of the best practices of his NFL career on Tuesday and then created some big plays during Family Night, including a long pass to Samory Tour under pressure.

“It was promising, he did a good job. I think he did it again today,” Lafleur said. “Jordan has shown great growth in my eyes.”

Lafleur acknowledged that the pressure on Love will increase in live games where the quarterback could get hit. On a touchdown on the Tour, rookie Devonte Wyatt hit Love right in the face and would have probably landed a devastating blow when the ball was thrown. It’s hard to say if the result would have changed.

The first big test is approaching. The Packers start preseason next Friday against the San Francisco 49ers, and Love is expected to get the bulk of the snaps as quarterback.

Can the young defender keep building?

Aaron Rodgers said Love has stronger footwork in third grade, which is likely the result of working closely with new quarterbacks coach Tom Clements. Brian Gutekunst believes that Love plays faster and with more expectation, which is the hallmark of a jump in quarterback performance.

None of this means much until Love proves something on the field. He’ll get his opportunity soon enough.
