Chefs left tackle Orlando Brown Junior did not attend the team’s mandatory mini-camp as he and Kansas City negotiate a long-term contract.

Brown and head coach Andy Reed both expressed confidence that a deal would be made for the young left tackle after the Chiefs placed a franchise tag on him to keep him in the herd.

Now a defender Patrick Mahomes added his voice as someone who believes Brown will get it right sooner rather than later – in part because he recently spent time with his left tackle.

“I’m very confident, simply because I know Orlando,” Mahomes said at his Thursday press conference. “Actually, I was with him yesterday. So I hang out with him a lot. He likes football. He loves the chiefs of Kansas City. He likes being here in this organization. So now it’s just something that’s always tricky, that’s the business side of it. We all want to provide for our families in the long term and future generations. So I know he’s trying to work it all out.

“But as far as love for the Chiefs and love for football, there’s not a single person in this building who loves him as much as he does.”

Kansas City acquired Brown from Baltimore last offseason as part of the team’s efforts to revamp its offensive line. He started 16 games for the Chiefs in 2021 and was selected to his third consecutive Pro Bowl.
