Penn State holds impressive spot in USA TODAY Sports FBS re-rank 1-131

Penn State continues to gain national respect after starting the season with a 5-0 record, but the Nittany Lions have actually fallen in the rankings. latest rating update of all 131 FBS teams by Paul Mayerberg of USA TODAY Sports. Mayerberg dropped the Nittany Lions one spot in this week’s update, but Penn State is still in good company.

Mayerberg dropped Penn State from 6th to 7th this week, largely because Oklahoma State made a nice move up the top 10 this week with a solid road win over Baylor. Oklahoma State, the highest ranked team in the Big 12, has moved up to 6th place this week. According to Mayerberg, the top five schools in the weekly re-ranking are largely formed with little change in the top five on a regular basis, if any.

These top five schools remain Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Michiganas well as Clemson, respectively. This week the top five has not changed. North Carolina is down seven places from seventh place currently held by Penn State. And Kentucky dropped eight spots to No. 16 after losing to Ole Miss, who moved up 13 spots to No. 12.

After the states of Oklahoma and Pennsylvania, the rest of this week’s top 10 consists of #8. TennesseeNo. 9 UCLA and No. 10 USC. USC has actually dropped one spot this week as their city rivals beat them to victory over Washington.
