Despite the fact that the USFL did not catch on with football fans, with an average of only 715,000 viewers on TV per game, and the game in Birmingham was played in front of a virtually empty stadium, the quality of the game was consistent. Today’s game was an exciting, hard-fought battle that remained in doubt until the last minute.

Unlike the regular season, in which every game was played in Birmingham, the playoffs are played in Canton, Ohio, where there are slightly more crowds than typical USFL regular season games.

Philadelphia will play the winner of tonight’s game between the New Orleans Breakers and the Birmingham Stallions in next week’s championship game. Breakers-Stallions starts at 8:00 pm ET on NBC.

The championship game kicks off at 7:30 pm ET on Sunday, July 3rd on Fox.
