Chelsea’s ongoing injury crisis took another horrific turn on Thursday when strikers Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic were substituted at the start of the first half.

“Christian broke his knee in a game the other day,” Potter said. via Football.London. “We are still sort of analyzing it, but I would say it will take a few weeks for him. Raheem had action in the first minute of the game, a slightly odd back heel strike, and he felt something in his hamstring. Again, we analyze this. Yesterday, Obamayang had a strained back, so he couldn’t travel.”

Sterling was injured first, who was substituted just 5 minutes after an obvious leg injury in the opening moments. Before the start of the Chelsea-Manchester City match, the Blues had only one injury – attacking player Armando Broja.

Pulisic’s injury came in the 16th minute, during a bright attacking moment for Chelsea. Mark Cucurella played the ball high above the field and found Kai Havertz with a pass into the top of the penalty area. Havertz missed the ball past a defender and into Pulisic’s path about nine yards from goal. Pulisic attempted to fire the first time, but John Stones slipped to Pulisic’s right to block the shot before touching his knee on impact.

Sterling and Pulisic join N’Golo Kante (thigh – out of action since Aug 14), Rhys James (knee – injured again in first game after Worlds, after missing Worlds due to injury), Wesley Fofana (knee – only two games in Premier League since signing with Leicester – haven’t played since 5 October), Edouard Mendy (shoulder – out after World Cup) and Brocha (knee – World Cup halftime injury) are on the Blues’ injured list. , which is jam-packed with key players from all corners of the field. Mason Mount also missed Thursday’s game after taking a hit in practice this week.

Chelsea (10th) were 10 points behind Manchester United in 4th when the game started on Thursday.

If you need the Premier League table for the 2022-2023 season, you’ve come to the right place.

After the hiatus ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Premier League is back with a bang and the holiday period has been a lot of fun.

Who look like title contenders and/or favorites?

Nearly halfway through the 2022/23 season, Arsenal and Manchester City look head and shoulders above the rest (although Newcastle have no intention of leaving).

The Gunners will be busy during the title challenge as Erling Haaland continues to storm the Premier League with an almost unbelievable goal scoring record.

Manchester United have broken into the top four and are in a fight for the top four with Tottenham, while Liverpool have improved and are back in the Champions League scrap. Chelsea have a lot to work on while Fulham and Brighton are hanging around on the fringes.

Who are the dropout candidates?

Newly promoted Nottingham Forest, along with Wolves and Southampton, are currently in the relegation slots.

But Leicester, West Ham, Everton and Leeds were just a few points away from the bottom three after a poor start.

Riyad Mahrez’s latest free-kick goal is close to perfect as the Algerian magician helped Manchester City beat Chelsea 4-0 on Sunday in an FA Cup tie at the Etihad Stadium.

Mahrez would later score from the penalty spot to take City out, who also saw Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden score, resulting in a fourth round draw with Monday’s winners Arsenal and Oxford United.

Mahrez swept over the Chelsea wall in utter brilliance and narrowly missed the top 90 metres, leaving Kepa Arrizabalaga gasping for air in Manchester.

City doubled their lead with a penalty, won by Phil Foden and converted by Julian Alvarez, and two goals seven minutes apart left Chelsea in serious trouble.

Foden scored after Kyle Walker made a stealth pass and the English defender himself signaled to Mahrez in the 39th minute.

Mahrez now has 70 goals for Manchester City, giving him 118 goals in England after starting his major role in the country with Leicester City. He also has 86 assists.

Manchester City can win everything (again)

Mahrez shone in City’s last game with depth as Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, Ilkay Gundogan and John Stones didn’t need to beat the Blues.

So yes, what if we told you City could dream of a quad again?

City are five points behind Arsenal in the Premier League but will play the Gunners twice. On Wednesday, he will travel to Southampton in the League Cup quarter-finals with three trophy victories for the champions and will have an advantage over RB Leipzig when the UEFA Champions League round of 16 takes place at the end of February.

The Nationals are in for a (probably) tough fourth-round draw in the Arsenal-Oxford United win (you really think the Gunners will be upset at home).

Pressure on Graham Potter remains

The former Brighton boss has spoken confidently about his future at Chelsea, where owner Todd Boly has made him his first manager and has invested heavily in young prospects.

And Potter continued to show a lack of real desperation, launching two very young defenders in Lewis Hall and Bashir Humphreys against the Premier League champions (Trevo Chalobah is not old either).

But Chelsea managed to score just 0.10 of the expected goal, despite Pep Guardiola starting with Sergio Gomez, Cole Palmer and Julian Alvarez among the outfield players and Stefan Ortega in goal (he only made one save and scored just 43 touches) .

Potter has a lot of work to do, but playing at City twice a week with Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic among the injured is no laughing matter.
