Quinn Ewers injury update: Texas star QB back at practice as timetable for return reportedly improves

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers returned to training on Monday, just nine days after he suffered a sprained joint against Alabama No. 2. Alternates Hudson Card and Malik Murphy also practiced, giving the Longhorns a full quarterback room for the first time in weeks.

Ewers was out of action for an extended period of time after a late tackle from Crimson Tide linebacker Dallas Turner. Early reports had Evers potentially absent for six weeks; however, the prognosis steadily improved after injury. statesman reported that Evers, who was on the field during Saturday’s warm-up before the Longhorns’ game with UTSA, would be back “a lot sooner than people expect.”

If Evers can get back to the start of Big 12 play this week, that would be a huge advantage for the Longhorns. Southlake (TX) product Carroll had an incredible first quarter against Alabama, completing 9 of 12 passes for 134 yards prior to injury. Had it not been for wide receiver Xavier Worthy’s brutal 35-yard fall in the end zone, his numbers would have been even more impressive.

The map was inconsistent for the Longhorns in a 41–20 win over UTSA. He completed 15 of 23 passes for 161 yards and a touchdown, but struggled to show off the kind of explosive play Evers had in his first two starts.

Texas opens the Big 12 game against Texas Tech on Saturday at 3:30 pm ET, coach Steve Sarkeesian’s first trip to Lubbock. Ironically, Texas Institute of Technology reportedly made a strong pitch to Evers during his transfer hiring process, which included testimonials from NFL star Patrick Mahomes, but the former #1 rookie ultimately decided to join the flagship program in Austin instead.
