But he’s not in rotation yet. The Rams signed him to the practice squad on Thursday.

“Actually last time Malcolm and I had the same landlord,” coach Sean McVey told reporters Thursday. “He is incredible. Malcolm is a professional in his field. [He] just does it right, both on and off the field. He will be a great example for many of our young players both in this room and beyond. He’s just a great example. He does everything right and knows how to play, man. He has some of the best blitz pickups we’ve ever had. . . . He made some great plays for us. It will be a great addition to this room.

Brown, undrafted out of Texas in 2015, spent six seasons with the Rams. He signed with the Dolphins last year. He had 125 yards before he landed on injured reserve in October. Brown joined the Saints in July but was released shortly thereafter.

“The situation is so unstable,” McVeigh said. “I think you guys saw it last year with Sony. [Michel] You just can’t have enough guys, especially in this position, who know and are veterans and can really just — defense, all those little things that come into position that don’t just hand them the ball and run away. . So it’s definitely not a blow to those other two. It’s just, “Hey, how can we make sure we build this behind them to make sure we have a guy who can also come in and drive and do things.” It never hurts.”

“Those other two” Darrell Henderson as well as Cam Akers. Henderson rushed for 47 yards in each of the first two games. Akers had none in week one, 44 in week two. Jake Funk is another runner on the list of 53.
