Red Sox trade Connor Seabold to Rockies for player to be named Cubs claim RHP Merryweather off waivers from Blue Jays

BOSTON. Right-hander Connor Sebold was traded by the Boston Red Sox to the Colorado Rockies for a player’s name or money.

Siebold, 26, was named last week to make room on the 40-man roster after signing a contract. Corey Kluber to a one-year, $10 million contract.

Sebold spent most of last season with Triple-A Worcester, going 8-2 with a 3.32 ERA and 89 strikeouts. He played in six major league games for Boston, earning 25 runs in 21.1 innings with 19 strikeouts.

CHICAGO. On Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs stripped pitcher Julian Merryweather of his rights from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Merryweather appeared in 26 games for Toronto last season, going 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA. The 6-foot-4 right-hander hit 23 balls in 26 2/3 innings.

To make room for Merryweather on the roster of 40, right-handed Manuel Rodriguez was meant to be assigned. Rodriguez went 2-0 with a 3.29 ERA and four saves in 14 assist appearances for Chicago last year.

Merryweather was assigned to the Toronto assignment last week.

Merryweather, 31, a fifth-round pick by the Cleveland Cleveland in the 2014 amateur draft, made his major league debut with the Blue Jays in 2020. He’s 0-4 with a 5.64 ERA and two saves in 47 career games.
