wizard star Bradley Beal said that he had already decided on his gaming future.
While he did not specifically reveal his plan, it appears to have included giving up an option on the player’s $36,422,136.
Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal will forgo his $36.4 million player option for the 2022-23 season and become an unrestricted free agent this summer, a league source told HoopsHype.
This is simple mathematics. Estimated maximum salary for Beal as a free agent: $43 million This is well below his $36,422,136 stock option salary.
Even if Beal wants to stay in Washington on contract with the rest of the year, he’d be better off pulling out and re-signing for a promotion.
Of course, Beal could get a multi-year payout from that $43 million starting salary – up to a projected $248 million over five years at the Wizards, or $235 million over four years elsewhere.
Beal has repeatedly said that he is leaning towards staying with the Wizards. Although he left the door open to leave, publicly announcing before free will opened that he knew his plan, then running away would have been a shocking turn of the heel. Most indicators point to Beal staying in Washington.
It will just happen with a larger salary in 2022-2023 after the waiver.
