Report: Celtics could have interest in trading for Atlanta’s John Collins at 2022 NBA draft

Maybe Boston Celtics got eyes on the big man Atlanta Hawks John Collins? One day before 2022 NBA draft, Zach Harper of Athletic his sources say there are rumors that Boston “may be interested in a deal with Collins”.

Noting that Horford is not a long-term solution for the team given his age and potential decline, Harper sees the Hawks big man as a solid potential option for the Celtics’ future. “Collins is only 24 years old and placing him with Robert Williams III and Jason Tatum in the frontcourt would give the Celtics a young, dynamic trio up front.”

The problem, according to the Athletic analyst, is to strike a deal that will be beneficial to all parties.

Horford apparently wouldn’t have made the deal, and despite the tale of star winger Jaylen Brown’s homecoming, that would be a clear downgrade in the talent rankings. Would a package built around defenders Derrick White or Marcus Smart be enough?

Even such a scenario creates other hard-to-fix problems, given Boston’s plans for strife, given their limited resources for flashy moves – put this scenario in a “wait and see” with many other last-day noises.
