Report: Guerrero Jr. ‘really happy’ with Blue Jays, open to long-term deal

The Toronto Blue Jays and their fans have fallen in love with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. over the past four years, and the feeling seems to be mutual.

Guerrero Jr. is reportedly open to staying with the Blue Jays for the long haul and would like to resolve the status of his contract as soon as possible.

“I am ready to sign a long-term contract with the Blue Jays. Guerrero Jr. said MLB insider Hector Gomez. “I feel very happy playing here. Hopefully something can be done in the offseason.”

Those words are music to fans’ ears as the 23-year-old batsman has only three years left in charge of the club after this season. His salary will rise from the $7.9 million he earns in 2022 as he continues to work in arbitration. Working out a long-term deal would make Guerrero Jr. the face of the franchise and give the Blue Jays some confidence in future spending.

In terms of how much it would cost to sign a first baseman, Toronto would likely have to pay around $30 million per season for at least 10 years.

Guerrero Jr. failed to repeat his breakthrough in 2021 when he finished second in American League MVP voting, hitting .278/.342/.485 with 28 home runs in 2022. his potential, his OPS+ is still 134 (34% higher than the average league hitter). If this type of production represents his gender as he gets deeper into his 20s, then it’s worth it to support a Brinks truck.
