Reports: Bryce Young won’t throw at NFL combine, other top QBs will

One of the top quarterback prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft will not be in the NFL scouting camp this week.

According to ESPN and the NFL Network, Bryce Young has decided not to participate in throwing practice this week in Indianapolis. Young, an Alabama native who won the Heisman Trophy in 2021, is considered the best quarterback in the draft. Like many others in the past, Young will be waiting to challenge the NFL’s talent evaluators at his pro day in Alabama on March 23.

Young suffered a shoulder injury during an October 1 game in Arkansas. Because of this, he missed Alabama’s next game against Texas A&M before he returned to the field for the rest of the season. Young has since recovered and his decision not to quit is not due to injury, according to the NFL Network.

Young, the No. 1 potential pick, is expected to take part in team interviews, as well as undergo various medical and measurement procedures. Young was listed in Alabama at 6 feet, 194 pounds. His true measurable parameters – especially his height – will be of particular interest to NFL teams.

Last season for Alabama, Young threw for 3,328 yards, 32 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

While Young has decided not to throw, three other quarterback prospects are set to take part in those practices Saturday in Indianapolis. According to multiple reports, CJ Stroud (Ohio State), Will Lewis (Kentucky) and Anthony Richardson (Florida) will be throwing.

Young, Stroud, Lewis and Richardson are considered first-round prospects. In Charles McDonald’s latest trial draft from Sportzshala Sports, all four were in the top 10: No. 2 Stroud to the Houston Texans, Young, No. 4 to the Indianapolis Colts, and Richardson, No. 6 to the Detroit Lions. and Lewis at number 7 in the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Chicago Bears are #1 in the April Draft. The Bears seem content to build around Justin Fields at quarterback and are reportedly “leaning” towards trading the top pick. Teams in need of a quarterback will definitely call.
