Road America Xfinity starting lineup: Kyle Larson wins pole

LAKE ELKHART, Wisconsin. – Kyle Larsonmaking his first start in the Xfinity series since 2018, will put everyone on the green flag in Saturday’s race at Road America.

Larson won the pole with a 108.495 mph lap. He drives a car prepared by Hendrick Motorsports. The car number (17) and paint scheme pay homage to the truck that Ricky Hendrick raced in 2000-01. He died in a team plane crash in 2004.

“When the riders called me and said, ‘Man, I’m so excited to be driving 17’, I felt good,” team owner Rick Hendrick told NBC Sports of his son being honored.

Larson is looking forward to Saturday’s race.

“My car also felt great in race trim,” he said.

Ty Gibbs (107.922 mph) qualified second. Riley Autumn (107.636) Cole Custer (107,594) and Sam Mayer (107.385) complete the top five.

Points leader AJ Allmendinger he had problems with his brakes during practice and did not make a qualifying attempt. It will start last in a group of 38 cars.

The green flag is due to go up ahead of Saturday’s race at 2:55 pm ET. The race takes place on the USA Network.
