World No. 45 Shelby Rodgers advanced to the final of the WTA Hardcourt Tournament in San Jose, California on Saturday with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over No. 19 Veronika Kudermetova .
Rodgers has reached her first final since 2016 and will be aiming for her first WTA Tour title when she faces either runner-up Paula Badosa of Spain or No. 12 Daria Kasatkina on Sunday.
Rodgers went on to have an impressive week that included a first victory over former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu and a victory over world No. 3 Maria Sakkari in first place.
The 28-year-old tennis player has not lost a single set all week, and against Kudermetova she started with a break in the first game of the match.
Kudermetova dropped again to submit in the first set, but opened the second, breaking the American.
Rodgers regained the lead but again lost 3–4. She won the next three games, sealing the victory after an hour and 20 minutes.
Rodgers will play their first final since Rio de Janeiro in 2016. In 2014, she finished second in Bad Gastein.
