This week, former F1 champion Nico Rosberg rarely returned to the cockpit of a racing car in a demonstration run for his Extreme E team.

Rosberg drove his team’s Rosberg X Racing car through the Nürburgring off-road park, close to the famous Formula 1 circuit and close to the team’s headquarters.

“It was just a phenomenal experience,” Rosberg said. “I can’t believe the power of this machine. Off-road driving is such a pleasure.”

Rosberg retired days after winning the 2016 F1 championship and has not raced since.

He has remained active in motorsport ever since, briefly as manager of Robert Kubica, as an investor in Formula E and an occasional Sky Sports F1 analyst.

At some point, Rosberg looked ready to get more involved in Formula E, but instead he focused on building a team in Extreme E.

The championship also features a team led by Rosberg’s former Mercedes teammate and title contender Lewis Hamilton.

Former Formula 1 champion Jenson Button was the most famous driver to compete in the 2021 season, although he did not return this year.

The second season of the Extreme E, the off-road championship for all-electric SUVs, continues in early July in Sardinia.

Rosberg’s team won the series’ first championship in 2021 and kicked off the new season by winning the first round in Saudi Arabia.
