New Orleans coach Dennis Allen said earlier this spring that Tysomem Hill would focus on playing the tight end, not the quarterback.

After numerous injuries last year, Hill was not seen in training during the off-season, but when he hits the field, his role will be multi-faceted.

“We talk about positionless defensive players all the time. I don’t know if “positionless” is the right word for Thaisom; he is a multi-position player,” Allen said. via Luke Johnson of The Times-Picayune. “I look at him as a weapon in the passing game. I look at him as a weapon when I play quarterback. I look at him with the ball in my hands. .

“There are a lot of places where Tysome Hill can help this team win and we want to use him in all those different roles.”

Sean Payton was Hill’s biggest champion as a quarterback, so it’s no surprise that the team that took over returned the 31-year-old to an all-round role. Hill can certainly be a weapon, but he’s not a full-fledged NFL starting quarterback.

Jameis Winston is due to be a starter after making a full recovery from an ACL tear, with Andy Dalton signed as a substitute.

Hill’s return to Swiss Army Knife role gives the Saints another offensive weapon, a gadget that forces the defense to prepare for a player who can run, pass or catch the ball any time he is on the field. Hill is far more valuable in this role than as a backup quarterback.
