San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln linebacker David Peevy has locked in his first three official visits and looks set for a very busy month of June.
Peevy is one of the more intriguing defensive prospects out West. He’s a player that has been on our radar since he was just a freshman. We first saw him at a National Preps Camp in San Diego and loved his frame and easy athleticism.
He was about 6-3, 200 pounds at the time with long arms and could run. Fast forward a couple of years and he’s now a solid 6-4, 240 pounds and developing in to a versatile edge rusher who could play with his hand in the ground or stay at outside ‘backer depending on the scheme.
On the recruiting front, Peevy holds scholarship offers from a host of programs including Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Colorado, Fresno State, Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State, USC, Utah and Washington.
He has three official visit dates set right now and all three are within 10 days of each other.
“I’m going to Oregon June 13-14, USC June 16-17 and Boise State June 19-20th,” Peevy said. “I have kind of a crazy schedule and my mom wasn’t available on a lot of weekends so that’s why we had to do them this way.
“I was kind of shocked at first when I saw this is how we were doing it but it’s what we had to do. It’s going to be a crazy week but I’m looking forward to it.”
With jamming three official visits so close together, the assumption is Peevy must want to make a later summer decision but he said nothing is set in stone yet.
“I really don’t know when I’m going to commit,” Peevy said. “I’m thinking about doing it at the beginning of the season or sometime in the middle of the season.
“I’m just going to play it out right now and see how I feel after I take the trips. I’ll evaluate everything later in the summer and then go from there.”
Peevy has already unofficially visited Oregon and USC. His visit to USC back in early March was when the Trojans offered him.
“I liked it there a lot, Peevy said. “They have a beautiful campus and I like the coaching staff a lot as well.
“Roy Manning is the coach who offered me and he’s a good guy and I met Lincoln Riley and liked him a lot as well. I’ve always liked USC and have high interest for sure.”
Peevy has a pair of former Lincoln teammates who just signed with Oregon in Jahlil Florence and Jalil Tucker.
“I visited Oregon but it was when the old staff was in place,” Peevy said. “I got the offer from the new staff though after talking with coach Tosh (Lupoi).
“We had a good talk and there’s a lot to like about Oregon and the football program. I liked the campus and the facilities so I’m looking forward to getting back.”
Boise State might be the most consistent school in recruiting Peevy.
“I like Boise State a lot,” Peevy said. “The whole staff is recruiting me, not just one or two coaches and it’s a good academic school as well.
“They have a 90% graduate rate and that’s big for me and my family. They’re a very good program as well and has a history of winning and I like them a lot.”
