What started with a Lionel Messi goal ended in one of the biggest group stage defeats in World Cup history as Saudi Arabia scored twice in the second half to beat Argentina 2-1 in Lusail on Tuesday.

Messi converted the penalty and Argentina looked set to extend their unbeaten streak to 37 games. But the goal of Lautaro Martinez was postponed due to a small offside, and the game ended after the first half with a score of 1:0.
