The Jets lost the most points and yards in the NFL last season, so the team has nowhere to go but to rise once they take the field in the 2022 season.
Protective tackle Sheldon Rankins said the goal is to get the team up. Rankins told reporters on Wednesday that “a man should expect to be the best defenseman in the league” this year.
Rankins said the team would “sell themselves cheap” to set any other goal for next year.
“For us, we want target on our back‘ Rankins said via Brian Costello of New York Post. “We want this challenge. We want to post this because it gives us something to walk and chase every day. It’s easy to say that you just want to be good. It’s relative. What are you comparing it to? What is your barometer by which you are trying to judge this? To say that you want to be the best, everyone knows what it means. To go into it with any other mindset would be just a flawed mindset. You would sell yourself cheap.
The Jets may not take the top spot, but a more modest improvement would be a big step up from 2021 and put the team on the right track in head coach Robert Saleh’s second season.
