About the circuit: “I arrived on Wednesday and went to see the circuit. It’s not technical at all, it’s about strength. It’s flat, but with low percentage slopes that undermine the legs. I’m fine. I’ve prepared this with care. I would have liked to arrive with something more pace but you can’t prepare for the Championship with the ‘goat’ and run at the same time because it’s one thing or another.

To improve on last year’s 4th place: Last year I saw that I was close, I was 5” behind Carlos who was third. But there is a lot of level. Last year, the same for some, something worse came out and this year, better. We will fight for the podium, but I would be happy to do the best time trial that I have inside. I want to finish the competition with the feeling that you have given everything. If by doing that I’m 5th, then next year I’ll try to improve and we’ll see what we can improve on”.

‘Yoghurines’ against veterans: “I don’t know exactly the participation, but there are tough rivals who will make things difficult: Ayuso, Rodríguez, Arrieta, myself… we can be there. Carlos and Juan have already shown that they can be at the best World level”.

Castro’s absence: “Having him against it, for everything, is a bad sign. For the time trial or because he is pulling the peloton. I just found out from you that he doesn’t race, but I guessed because I saw Carlos entering alone and he surprised me. I don’t like to be aware who comes from and who doesn’t. I focus on doing the time trial as best I can. On Friday at the start I’ll see who’s running”

A positive campaign: “I started the year going well, I had to lose a lot of weight. The watts were coming out and I was ahead in Catalonia, Andalusia… but there came a point that I couldn’t climb as we would like. After Romandía I spoke with Juanjo and Iosune. We focused the planning to rest. After a month at home to try to do things well and now get to this part of the year as well as possible. I’m happy because the watts came out of me at the beginning, but I was aware that I lacked. In the last race I was to pick up the pace and, as the days went by, I got better picking up the pace. I ended up very happy. Now I’ve spent a few days preparing the time trial at home. We’ll see how the room goes. We’ll take stock on Friday”.

Also on the route: “On Sunday I will also race. In normal training you already prepare it. But you do have to put more intensity into the time trial with the ‘goat’. That is why this month I have focused a little more on the ‘goat'”.

Illusion for LaVuelta: “It remains to be seen. From what happens now to what happens in August there is still. I would like to be in LaVuelta. After this I will go up and we will see the calendar. I would like to do LaVuelta, but it depends on the team and not on me” .

Animated by Juan and Carlos: “I’ve known them since youth, I’m very happy. I’d like to be them but I did finish this month happy with the sensations. You arrive at Adriatica Ionica, which is true that it’s not top level, but out of five days I spent three contesting the stage I think that, if I follow the line I’m following, I can compete and get my first victory as a professional. Carlos has had a very good year. I met him this Wednesday here in Mallorca. I did the route with him. He’s going very, very fast. “Last year, at Mont Ventoux, he messed it up. But this year he’s gone one step further. Winning a stage in Itzulia is no joke… If he ends up going to the Tour, he’ll deserve it. But it will depend a bit on the team.” We don’t choose the calendar many times either.”

Adrià’s victory: “We had victories for Enrique or Parra, but in lower level races. Winning in Occitania and taking the lead is something nice as a team. It’s a good sign that the work is being done well. We are bearing fruit. The only thing that encourages us At least for me, it’s to keep fighting to look for new wins. Roger is one point ahead, but he’s not that far away. I don’t know how he’ll do it on Sunday. I think it will come on Friday. It’s not just the victory he has achieved, but the week before he made a Top 10 on Mont Ventoux holding on with the first swords until well into the climb. It is not a flash in the pan for the stage victory. This route is good for him. We have a good team, so let’s see what tactics Pablo and Juanjo employ. He has shown that he is at an incredible level”.

The schedule of the Championships:

Ion Izagirre will seek his third Spanish Time Trial Championship in Mallorca

Ion Izagirre (Cofidis) will seek in Mallorca his third title of champion of Spain against the clock. The Basque cyclist, champion at La Nucía 2021, will try to revalidate his title against an extensive list of ‘croners’, among which the new batch of national cycling talents such as Carlos Rodríguez, Juan Ayuso and Raúl García Pierna stand out.

The Elite UCI-Elite cyclists will face a route of 38.5 km and 384 meters of unevenness with start and finish in Cala Millor and that will share most of its route with the sub23 and females. The second half of the time trial will be made up mostly of a round trip section, with hardly any curves and perfect for the best specialists to join and make important differences.

Izagirre is emerging as the great favorite to wear a Spanish champion jersey that he already wore in 2021 and 2016. He will face other powerful cyclists in this type of terrain such as the telephone Álex Aranburu, Óscar Rodríguez, Albert Torres and Oier Lazkano (Movistar); Diego López (Kern Pharma); Xabier Mikel Azparren (Euskaltel Euskadi); o Jokin Murguialday (Caja Rural-Alea).

Some of the incipient and very young national talents who have already shown signs in past editions and so far this season of their great level against the clock will not miss the event. Thus, they will start in Cala Millor, according to the pre-registrations, Carlos Rodríguez (Ineos), third in 2021; Juan Ayuso (UAE Emirates), who arrives after signing a sensational time trial in Dauphiné against some of the best specialists in the world; Raúl García (Kern Pharma), fourth last year; Igor Arrieta (Kern Pharma), sub23 champion in the last edition; o Iván Romeo (Hagens Berman Axeon), junior time trial champion 2021.

Regarding the elite category, Eloy Teruel (Mechanical Broccoli), current champion, is the main favorite for the title. Noel Martín (Vigo-Rías Baixas), second in 2021, will start as another of the favourites. It is also worth mentioning the participation in the test of the Valencian paracyclist Maurice Eckhard (Dstrel – Hyundai Koryo car), multiple world medalist and Paralympic medalist who, as happened in 2021 with Eduardo Santas, will compete against able-bodied cyclists in the time trial in a new inclusion exercise.

The start for Elite-UCI and Elite cyclists will take place from 12:30 on Friday morning.

The Spanish Elite-Sub23 Road Championship of Mallorca 2022 It has the collaboration of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government of Spain financed by the European Union – Next Generation EU, the Tourism Strategy Agency of the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Fundació Mallorca Turisme. In addition, it has the collaboration of the Cala Millor Tourism Consortium and the Municipal Councils that form it, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar and Son Servera, together with the Palma City Council.
