Detroit Pistons quarterback Cade Cunningham, second year, is looking into surgery on his left calf after reacting to stress, league sources told Sportzshala Sports.

Cunningham has been battling pain since the preseason and has seen several doctors look for ways to continue his second season.

Cunningham has been out since Nov. 12 as the team called it a sore shin, but the prognosis has gotten worse since then, the sources said. At the moment he is determining the options. Recovery time will be determined after surgery.

If he decides not to have surgery, he will be advised to have a combination of rest.

The No. 1 pick in the 2021 NBA draft, Cunningham has played in 12 games this season, averaging 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6 assists on 41% shooting. He placed third in Rookie of the Year voting and hoped that the second season would be promising.
