The Dallas Stars have named former Vegas Golden Knights head coach Peter DeBoer as the franchise’s new head coach, according to a statement from the team. DeBoer spent the last three seasons as Golden Knights head coach before being relieved of his duties after Vegas missed the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs.

“Over the past few seasons, I’ve seen firsthand what the Stars are building with a mix of dynamic young players and established leaders,” DeBoer said in a press release. “The chance to become the next head coach of this team was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I’d like to thank Tom Gaglardi and Jim Neill for the opportunity to help guide this team as we work together to bring another Stanley Cup to Dallas. .”

The Stars were looking for a head coach following the departure of former head coach Rick Bowness. After being eliminated by the Calgary Flames in seven games in the 2022 postseason by the Stars, Bowness resigned as his contract was expiring.

DeBoer compiled an impressive 98-50-12 record in his three seasons as head coach of the Golden Knights. Vegas made the Conference Finals in each of DeBoer’s first two seasons with the franchise, but last regular season, for the first time in the Golden Knights’ short history, the team failed to make the Stanley Cup playoffs.

DeBoer, 54, has a lot of experience as a head coach. He was the head coach of the Florida Panthers, New Jersey Devils, San Jose Sharks, and Golden Knights.

The bench boss amassed a record of 513-379-12 in his 15 years as head coach. In addition, DeBoer led the Devils and Sharks to the Stanley Cup Finals but lost both times.
