Starting lineup grid for IMSA at Road America: Albuquerque puts Wayne Taylor Acura on pole

Filipe Albuquerque continued to put pressure on the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship DPi race with a first place starter on Saturday at Road America.

Acura, runner-up in the Wayne Taylor Racing No. 10, 56 points behind with the two remaining races. qualified on pole position with a 1-minute, 48.915-second lap around a 14-turn, 4.048-mile track.

“They gave me the perfect car and I just felt great right out of the first corner,” said Albuquerque, who will start the two-hour, 40-minute race before handing it over to teammate Ricky Taylor.

“The car was very, very good, with good grip. Tomorrow’s race will be very rainy, so starting first in a potentially chaotic race should help keep us out of trouble. It’s perfect”.

Points leaders Tom Blomquist and Oliver Jarvis start third in the No. 60 Acura Meyer Shank Racing behind Alex Lynn and Earl Bamber in the No. 02 Cadillac Chip Ganassi Racing.

This is the fifth pole position of the season for Acura.

In GTD Pro, Jack Hawksworth won pole in race two after returning from a month-long injury by qualifying first in Wasser Sullivan’s #14 Lexus RC F GT3, which he drives with Ben Barnicott.

Wasser Sullivan nearly completed the GT qualifying run, but Robbie Foley (in the #96 BMW M4 GTE Turner Motorsport) passed Frankie Montecalvo (in the #12 Lexus RC F GT3) for GTD pole.

LMP2: Stephen Thomas earned his fourth pole of the season for PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports in 11th place in the ORECA LMP2 07, 0.134 seconds ahead of Patrick Kelly.

LMP3: Malte Jacobsen took pole position with a class-record lap of 1:59.434 in the No. 33 Sean Creech Motorsport Ligier JS P320.
