Steelers sign Larry Ogunjobi: Former Bengals D-lineman joining Pittsburgh on 1-year deal

Ogunjobi ended his career year in his only season with the Bengals, recording 49 combined tackles, 16 QBs and seven sacks in 16 games played. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte product was originally developed by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent his first four NFL seasons with Cleveland, recording 180 combined tackles and 14.5 sacks in 60 games played.

Without Tuitt last year, the Steelers statistically had the worst defense in the NFL. Pittsburgh drafted Texas A&M’s DeMarvin Leal and also drafted Chris Wormley, but Ogunjobi is sure to be an upgrade to that line of defense.

This offseason, the Steelers made several changes to the defensive side of the ball. They signed linebacker Miles Jack and cornerback Levi Wallace to lucrative deals as free agents. In the draft, Pittsburgh added youngsters to their defensive line in Leal, a versatile player who has held several positions in Texas A&M. Pittsburgh also extended Minka Fitzpatrick’s contract, making the two-time All-Pro the highest-paid defenseman in the league. Fitzpatrick is part of a defensive core that also includes defensemen Cam Hayward and outside linebacker TJ Watt.

“I’m very excited,” Fitzpatrick recently said of the Steelers’ defense. “Obviously I’m excited about Akello’s return. I’m thrilled with Levi. I’m thrilled with Miles. Great coaching and getting the new guys ready for the game. We’re going to need some new faces to energize. I’m really excited for the season ahead.”
