Briles has been the Arkansas OC for the last three seasons under coach Sam Pittman. In 2022, Arkansas was averaging 6.4 yards per game as the school went 7–6 to beat Kansas in the Liberty Bowl.

Prior to coaching at Arkansas, Briles was offensive coordinator for Florida State in 2019 and Houston the previous season. The 40-year-old son of ex-Baylor Coach Art Briles, who was in service, worked on his father’s staff from 2008 to 2016 and went from inside receivers coach to offensive coordinator and quarterback coach in his last two seasons with the Bears.

Kendal Briles remained Baylor’s offensive coordinator throughout the 2016 season after his father was fired pre-season following an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against members of the football team.

Arkansas has fallen from 9-4 in 2021 to 7-6 in 2022 mostly because of the team’s defense. The Razorbacks have scored over 30 points per game in every season with Briles on staff. But a defense that was returning 5.4 yards per game in 2021 was returning 6.5 yards per game in 2022.

During his time as offensive coordinator at five different schools, including the Florida Atlantic in 2017, Briles has shown an ability to adapt to his strengths with a focus on creative play. Arkansas has thrown 27 times per game in 2022 and has thrown over 46 times per game over five yards per carry.

The strong performance was the basis for TCU’s promotion to the national title game in January. The Horned Frogs averaged over five yards per carry, and RB Kendra Miller rushed for nearly 1,400 yards and threw 17 touchdowns before missing the national title game with a knee injury. QB Max Duggan and reserve RB Emari Demercado rushed for over 1,000 yards together and the Horned Frogs threw 37 rushing touchdowns.

The TCU offense will look different in 2023 as Duggan, Miller and WR Quentin Johnston head to the NFL. Chandler Morris started the 2022 season at QB before the injury and is likely to be a starter in 2023. Demercado will return and the team has added transfer WRs John Paul Richardson (Oklahoma State), Jojo Earl (Alabama), TE Jack Beh (LSU). ) and RB Trey Sanders (Alabama) to bolster the offense.
