Steve Sargsyan and his coaching staff provided verbal commitments from eight players in the class of 2023, as Manning – the No. 1 player in the nation – said he would travel to Texas on June 23. The five players Texas have received commitments from since Manning announced his decision were on the offensive side. Four of these players are offensive linemen, and all of them have at least three stars.

From orangebloods.com:

Sunday’s four offensive lines show that the big men also believe in their vision. [Connor] In late spring, Straw mentioned to the Orangebloods that he was attracted to the idea of blocking Manning in college. It is reasonable to believe that this was part of the thinking about [Andre] Fuck, [Jaydon] Chatman and [Trevor] Gusby too.

There is certainly charm in the linemen that the Longhorns are after.

Strengthening the offensive line is a big deal for Texas. The Longhorns had only two offensive linemen selected as Tony Hills was selected in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Connor Williams was selected in the second round of the 2018 draft and Sam Cosmi was selected in the second round of the 2021 draft. No player from Texas has been selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. The 2022 draft was the second in the last decade not to include Longhorn.

Another forward who moved to the Longhorns after Manning made the commitment is four-star wide receiver Jonah Wilson. Wilson is the No. 36 receiver in the class of 2023 and the No. 47 player at Texas State.

Wilson is also one of six players from the state of Texas who have verbally committed in the past five days. As you probably know, the state of Texas is full of high school football talent. If Texas could bring in the best recruits in the state every season, it would be great to do without players from other places.

But in recent years, the Longhorns have not been as successful as they would like. Texas received only two of the state’s top 10 players in the 2021 class, while Texas A&M had five. Overall, the Longhorns have received only four of the state’s top 30 players in the previous three recruiting cycles, although 2021 top player Quinn Ewers moved to Texas in December from Ohio State.

Thanks to Manning and 15 other players, Texas has already received verbal commitments in this recruiting cycle, Texas has already moved up to 3rd place in the rankings. Rivals Recruiting Ranking 2023 behind only Ohio and Notre Dame. And it’s not surprising that Texas could break into the first pair if Manning’s presence brings more recruits to Austin. If Texas gets into the top 3 in the Rivals rankings, it will be in the top 3 for the first time. since recruiting cycle 2012 when the Longhorns were only behind Alabama.
