Texas A&M’s effort pleased Jimbo Fischer during Saturday’s 17-9 win over Miami. Coach Aggie said it was a mandatory win after last week’s shock loss to Appalachian State. Texas A&M did enough defensively to thwart the Hurricanes, causing Mario Cristobal’s team to suffer their first loss of the season.

“I am very proud of our team, I think we showed a lot of courage and a big heart,” Fischer said after the victory. “We played a very good football team. They came with great momentum, everything happened. Our kids got up and I thought we were fighting after a very good week of training.

Texas A&M was never behind in the game and took a 17-3 lead in the third quarter thanks to a 25-yard touchdown pass from Max Johnson to Devon Achane. Johnson, who moved from LSU, first started playing for the Aggie as a quarterback after beating Haynes King in practice following a loss.
