Texas finished 5th in the nation’s recruiting class after receiving a big promise from the Top247 linebacker. Derion Gullettwinning one on one against Texas A&M at the track.

Ohio State and Oklahoma were the other contenders for the explosive Gullett, who is one of the best two-way players in the country. At Teague Junior School in Texas, he had 125 tackles, three sacks and three fumbles for 1,430 yards and 14 touchdowns.

He’s going to shine on the D in Austin. Gullett has a unique explosion for a tier 2 defender, smooth direction changes and strength. I think he has a lot of advantages to be a physical point of attack player, but with the combination of his speed and quickness, he can also be a space eater. He can play between tackles, but can also be a marginal factor with long-term passing ability. And he is a born athlete who can clearly catch football.

Gullette – commit #21 for Steve Sarkisian and his staff, but they haven’t finished yet. Not even close. This is a program to monitor the progress of several blue chips.

I still love Texas for number two on the Top247. Cedric Baxter Jr. turning to its decision of 10 August. Baxter, one of the best players in the country, regardless of position, ran as a junior and made it to 1,718 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Upper guard Top247 Jordan Matthews will leave the board on August 15 with Brandon Harris as well as Terry Joseph and all of their Louisiana connections are merged with one of the Burnt Oranges. Tennessee and Michigan are the other finalists. Perhaps the Vols depth chart is enticing, but Texas is looking for more difference makers in secondary too, and they have been at the top of most of the Matthews process.

Longhorns battle Alabama for Top247 receiver Jalen Hale who will officially arrive in Tuscaloosa on September 3 before returning to Austin on September 10 for a game against Crimson Tide. It’s a battle between two teams.

Country’s best tight end Duce Robinson will also take his official to the game in Alabama as Texas competes for him with USC, Alabama, Georgia and Oregon.

Safety guard Top247 Javien Toviano still there for Texas and could play quarterback or safety. LSU and Michigan are also at the center of this process.

Another terrific two-way standout that Texas loves as a receiver in Mikal Harrison-Pilot is on the board. At one point, the Longhorns looked like a slam dunk.

Extreme rusher #4 in Top247’s Help Achan is the main goal. Texas is one of the leaders, such as LSU and Oklahoma.

Texas takes aim at five-star pass rusher Damon Wilson and a four-star defender Breylan Shelby still communicating though I like that USC is going to make their Saturday decision.

Sargsyan and company signed the top five cycle back. In my opinion, this was highlighted by the amazing recruiting around the line of scrimmage. This was followed by a good catch in 2023 at the point of attack, and Gullett will be another force in this area.

From a staff standpoint, this list really fits the bill for Texas. You obviously recruit elite quarterbacks with Quinn Evers from the portal and four stars Malik Murphy in 2022 and #1 recruit in the country Arch Manning in this class. I heard Bill Polian speak last week at the staff symposium in Nashville, and he told more than 300 college football staff that everything starts at the center. I’m not sure if any program supplies the room better now than in Texas, Ohio and Alabama. The average weight of 11 offensive linemen in the last two cycles is 314 pounds. The Longhorns will be massive up front, and I don’t know if a two-stroke pull is better anywhere else. Pulling Baxter obviously makes the program the heir Sesame Robinson. A ton of speed was gained on the road and at the secondary level. After every major contract with Texas, I repeat the same thing: the arrow is pointed at Texas with an elite set at all key points as they build a roster that can play in the harsh conditions of the SEC.
