The Daily Sweat: It’s conference tournament week, and 2 more bids get awarded Monday

There are already four official names in the men’s grid. Over the next week, 29 more auto bets will be earned.

It’s “Championship Week,” as ESPN aptly called it years ago, when men’s college basketball junkies can gorge themselves on playing a conference tournament before qualifying Sunday. The NCAA Tournament is getting all the attention, but the number of hoops this week is hard to beat. This is a great way to gain strength for betting on the March Madness. Cinderella’s future NCAA tournament is on display this week, winning their conference tournaments – perhaps UNC Asheville? – or at least it will be the teams you bet +15.5 on against some #2 seed 10 days from now.

Two more applications are awarded on Monday evening. In the Southern Conference, Furman meets Chattanooga, and in the Sun Belt we get South Alabama vs. Louisiana. Furman has an advantage of 5.5 at BetMGM in SoCon game, and Louisiana is a slight 1.5-point favorite in the Sun Belt Finals.

Among these four teams, South Alabama may have the best profile for a potential under-pick in the NCAA Tournament (or a first-round cover). They lost pretty close to New Mexico, Alabama, Oklahoma, and the UAB early in the season. The Jaguars have won 11 of 13. They play slowly, don’t flip and have a lot of experience. But they need to get through Louisiana before you worry about them in your group.

This is one of the brightest weeks of the sports calendar. The madness of March is here.

Here’s a first look at Monday’s sports betting calendar:

The NBA has 6 games.

The NBA had an amazing Sunday with some great games, and maybe some of Monday night’s six games were also successful.

Highlights include the Boston Celtics losing in overtime to the New York Knicks on Sunday at the Cleveland Cavaliers. Cavs is the favorite with 5.5 points. Another interesting match is the Toronto Raptors at the Denver Nuggets. With a ridiculous 29-4 record at home this season, the Nuggets are favorites with 6.5 points.

NHL also has 6 games

The best of the six games the NHL has on Monday is probably the Edmonton Oilers vs. the Buffalo Sabers. Edmonton is the -145 favorite. The Oilers are a pretty good road team and probably the right side on Monday, even as the favorite.

What’s the best bet?

There are a lot of good mid-major conference semi-finals on Monday, and in the West Coast conference it’s like Gonzaga-St. Mary’s final on Tuesday night is a fait accompli. Maybe, but Gonzaga, who scored 14.5 points against San Francisco on Monday, seems tough. Gonzaga isn’t going to worry about blowing away the USF, just moving on to Tuesday night. San Francisco is a strong team that lost just two points at home to Gonzaga in the first meeting of the season, and asking the dons to hit 14.5 isn’t too much.
