Une of the great stars in the history of cycling lives a more than complicated moment. Mario Cipollini, considered by many to be the great sprinter of all time, faces a possible sentence of more than two years in prison after being accused by his ex-wife of assault and threats. A defense and jury verdict in the case is expected on July 13.
In recent years it was known that Cipollini was accused of mistreatment of his former partner, Sabrina Landucci. The Italian has been denounced for exercising violence against her, by grabbing her by her neck and pointing a gun at her. In addition to threats like “I’m going to kill you”; “break the bones” or “tear out the brain with your hands”.
Thus, the prosecutor asks for 2.5 years in prison and 80,000 euros in compensation for the sprinter from Lucca. As detailed “performed a series of acts that damaged the physical and mental integrity of Landucci through punches, blows or kicks.” In addition, it also adds that ‘Il Bello’ threatened Silivo Giusti, Landucci’s current partner and who filed the complaint with her.
Cipollini and Landucci separated on December 16, 2016 and a few weeks later the first complaint came to the former Italian cyclist. A runner who has to his credit being the historical ‘top scorer’ of the Giro d’Italia, with 42 wins, being world champion or mastering the art of sprinting.
On the other hand, his character never left anyone indifferent. Now, until July 13, he can develop a defense that frees him from being able to end up in prison if the request of the prosecution is fulfilled. He has always denied all the accusations surrounding him.
