The Florida Gators have only recently entered the Texas four-star race. Breylan Shelbybut he quickly placed Orange and Blue at the top of his list.
The Florida coaches were in Friendswood, Texas to see Shelby in action on Monday and the offer was submitted the next day. Alligators online. Arkansas, LSUMiami and Texas Tech also started chasing him, and Texas and USC followed Shelby even longer.
However, the Gators have something that works in their favor that other programs don’t: nostalgia.
“In fact, when I was growing up, Florida was my dream school,” Shelby said. “For some reason I always went to turn on the TV, it was a game that was always on. As a kid, I always loved Florida.”
Things are still fresh, but Shelby expects Florida to move quickly up his board. He plans to visit Florida, Florida State and Miami in one summer trip, which should give him a better idea of the program.
“I feel like right now they (Florida) are eight to top ten, somewhere in there,” he said. “I know that when I come to visit, they will probably rise. Only now, I’m talking somewhere out there.
The Longhorns and Trojans are the teams to beat right now, and Shelby intends to make two of his five official visits on those two programs. Meeting Billy Napier and the coaching staff personally should increase UF’s chances of getting him back on campus after defense personnel analyst Joe Hamilton did most of the communication for the Gators.
Shelby is ranked 349th in the On3 rankings and 35th in the EDGE 2023 rankings, according to the service.
