Ryan Tannehill missed five games this season, and when he played, the Titans were only 6-6. He threw the fewest touchdown passes since his 2012 rookie season.

The Titans must make a decision on the position.

Despite coach Mike Vrabel backing Tannehill as his quarterback, the quarterback has $36.6 million and the Titans can save $18 million by cutting him.

New CEO Ran Carton said at his introductory press conference that he needs some time to evaluate Tannehill.

“I AM I don’t think it’s fair at the moment,” Carton said via ESPN’s Turron Davenport. “We are still evaluating the squad. Ryan is great here. He has won many football matches. I look forward to our victories in football matches. But I still need more time to evaluate and make those decisions.”

Tannehill, who turns 35 in July, said he “definitely” had “a few good years” left.

His last two seasons have been mediocre, going 17-11 with 34 touchdowns, 20 steals and a 91.5 passer rating. In his defense, the Titans’ host corps suffered from the offseason. AJ Brown and offensive line injuries have played a big role in the 80 sacks he’s won over the last two seasons.

“It’s a league run by quarterbacks,” Carton said. “People are hired and fired every day for this position. I want to spend more time evaluating this position so I will have my own opinion. Then Mike and I will consult and decide everything.
