In the past few seasons, the Chiefs have been viewed as a powerful offensive force, but Tommy Townsendwork sometimes caught the eye of observers.
Townsend was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month last November, and on Thursday he won the honor twice. The NFL has announced that Townsend will be the first recipient of the award for the 2022 season.
In the first three games of the season, Townsend averaged 55.5 yards on 11 hits. One of those kicks was a 74-yard bomb in Week 2 of Kansas City’s victory over the Chargers, and Townsend also dropped five of his 11 kicks within the opposing 20-yard line.
The chiefs will try to avoid calling Townsend too often in the coming weeks, but they can be sure he will get the job done when they do have to call his number.
