In anticipation of the weekend Toledo received the highest lead rating in the era of the recruiting database when Sonny Wilson announced his commitment to the Rockets men’s basketball program. Top 150 seniors chose Toledo over offers from Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Detroit, Eastern Michigan, Mississippi Valley State, Aucklandas well as Western Michigan.

“Coaches, players and everyone just welcomed me into the fraternity,” Wilson said. “When I came to visit, I felt the mood of the coaches and players. I feel like this is the best fit for me.”

The 6-foot point guard from Detroit, Michigan, Wilson liked the coaching staff’s confidence in his ability to make a quick impact.

“FROM Ryan Rollins Going to the NBA, I saw the impact he had on the program during my freshman and sophomore years,” Wilson said. “Their staff think I can come in and be the next great player in their program. They see that I have a great future there.”

Wilson is the Rockets’ third commitment in the class of 2023. He joins the attacking defender. Sam Lewis as well as Xavier Thomas.

When asked what he plans to bring to the program, Wilson said, “I bring leadership and a dog mentality. Every time I step on the court, I make a statement. I sincerely believe that when I get there, we will win a lot.” and get into the NCAA Tournament.

With three stars, Wilson is ranked 135th in the 247Sports Top150 Player Rankings.
