CHARLOTT, North Carolina. International President’s Cup captain Trevor Immelman was apparently scrolling through Twitter on Friday morning when he saw a message from Greg Norman wishing the team good luck at Quayle Hollow.
Immelman replied with one word: “LOL”.
After all, it was Norman, himself former president Kupper, who helped wreck the visiting team by luring a host of well-known talent to LIV Golf, some of them after the qualifying deadline. As a result, the Internationals were heavy underdogs before the matches of the week, with their two-session 8-2 deficit the biggest in the tournament’s history.
Asked to share his thoughts at the captains press conference on Friday night, Immelman said: “Look, any of you who have known me for a long time know that I am an extremely open and honest person. I almost say it exactly the way I think it is. What I said was exactly what I was doing when I read this tweet: I laughed out loud.
“I realized long ago that it is dangerous to lie, because you need to have a good memory. So I’d rather tell the truth.”
