Tyler Reddick drove a 99.378 mph lap on Saturday to win pole position in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Austin Sindrik was second on the IMS Road with a score of 99.095. Next in the top 10 were Chase Briscoe, Christopher Bell, Ryan Blaney, Michael McDowell, Chase Elliott, Todd Gilliland as well as Kyle Bush.
“We’re always trying to get the perfect lap,” Reddick said. “We didn’t do it, but it was enough for the pole position.”
Briscoe was fastest in Group A in the first round qualifying at 99.093 mph. Reddick was the fastest in Group B with a score of 98.963.

Sunday’s race is the first of five that will close the Cup regular season.
Fourteen riders qualified for the playoffs as race winners. Currently, the other two spots in a field of 16 riders (on points) are held by Blaney and Martin Truex Jr. Kevin Harvick as well as Aric Almirola are the first two riders under the playoff cutoff line.
Sunday’s race (2:30 pm ET) will be televised on NBC.
