MJ Daffue plays in his first US Open. After nine holes on Friday, he led the US Open by three strokes. Taken together, these facts would melt the brains of most people who watch golf, but people who can play golf are made of a harder material. Things that make them take such pictures, for example:
Yes, it’s Daffy, pronounced “Duffy”, getting ready to leave the deck from the guest tent next to the 14th hole at The Country Club. You can just see the fairway on the far right; the hole is still 287 yards away.
Simply put: this is a ridiculous shot, between trees, fence posts, tents and, oh yes, people. How was it? Observe:
Unfortunately, Duffue pulled his chip off the fringe and spooked the hole, which was part of a rough cut that saw him completely lose the lead. But it will always have that shine… and thankfully, no one in the tent has a concussion or a missing tooth as a result.
