The UFC is back with the latest pay-per-view and a return to New York, which means the popular ‘Embedded’ video series of the week of fights is here to document what goes on behind the scenes.
UFC 281 will be held on Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York. The main card airs on pay-per-view after prelims on ESPNews and early prelims on ESPN+.
The main event will be a middleweight title fight between the champion Israel Adesanya (23-1 MMA, 12-1 UFC) and challenger Alex Pereira (6-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC). They have already met twice – but in kickboxing. In these fights, Pereira won a couple of victories over Adesanya.
The co-main event will be a fight for the women’s world strawweight title between the champion Carla Esparza (19-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) and former title holder Zhang Weilme (22-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC). Besides, Michael Chandler (23-7 MMA, 2-2 UFC) Dustin Poirier (28-7 MMA, 20-6 UFC) in a key lightweight bout and former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar (24-10-1 MMA, 18-10-1 UFC) is fighting in what will likely be his last fight when he meets Chris Gutierrez (18-3-2 MMA, 6-1-1 UFC) bantamweight.
The second episode of “Embedded” follows famous fighters as they prepare for battle week. Here is a description of the UFC episode from YouTube:
Champion Israel Adesanya is fond of fine arts. Alex Pereira sweats outdoors. Michael Chandler sees redemption in MSG and trains with Kamaru Usman. Champion Carla Esparza supports this process. Zhang Weili landed in New York.
