After losing the title to Teixeira at UFC 267 in October 2021, Blachowicz won his only appearance in 2022 with a third-round TKO victory over Aleksandar Rakic in the main event of UFC Vegas 54 in May. Blachowicz was already ready to take on Ankalaev in a -Main Event of UFC 282 in a proposed #1 contender bout before advancing to the main event.
