UFC 284 weigh-in results: Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski set for superfight, two fighters miss

Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski are ready for a clash of great boxers, regardless of weight category.

At the official UFC 284 weigh-ins on Friday, Volkanovski stepped on the scale first, weighing in at 154.5 pounds, his first lightweight appearance since his UFC debut in November 2016. #1 in MMA Fighting Pound-for-Pound.

Makhachev, number 2 on this list, weighed in at 155 pounds for his first title defense. He got undressed and had to be covered with a box to make weight, but otherwise hit the mark with no problem. Makhachev was one of six fighters who needed cover from the box.

In the co-main event of the interim UFC Featherweight Championship, contestants Yair Rodriguez and Josh Emmet reached the championship weight of 145 pounds.

Not everyone is so lucky, as two preliminary fighters came in at heavyweight, flyweight Claydson Rodriguez and lightweight Zubaira Tukhugov. Rodriguez weighed in at 127 pounds in his first fight with Shannon Ross and didn’t weigh in the second time. Their fight will take place at a catchweight and Rodriguez will lose 20 percent of his fee as a penalty.

Tukhugov weighed in at 157.5 pounds, 1.5 pounds over the lightweight limit. According to UFChis fight with Elf Brenner will continue at catchweight and Tukhugov will forfeit 30 percent of his fee as a fine.

This is the second time in Tukhugov’s UFC career that weight cutting issues have affected one of his fights, with the previous gaffe occurring at featherweight.
