LAS VEGAS – Mario Batista spent little time doing work on Saturday.
Bautista (10-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) has arguably the cleanest performance of his six UFC fights. It took him only half a round to secure a victory over Brian Kelleher in the preliminaries of the tournament. UFC on ESPN 38 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
After the mat fight and transition to full mount, Batista found an opportunity to land a rear naked choke when Kelleher (24-13 MMA, 8-6 UFC) turned away. The choke was deep and Kelleher had no choice but to knock.

“I was very happy to show my jiu-jitsu,” Bautisa told Michael Bisping during his post-match cage interview. “I’ve worked a lot with John Crouch and I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to showcase that in the UFC. Against whom better to show it than against my opponent.
The win marks the second consecutive victory for Bautista, who entered Saturday’s event after a unanimous decision victory over Jay Perrin in February.
