Terrence McKinney returned to the winning column in a big way on Saturday when he quickly defeated the former Combate Global standout Eric Gonzalez in UFC on ESPN 40 in Las Vegas.
The lightweight fight marked the beginning of the main UFC Apex card and did not last long. McKinney (13-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC) defeated Gonzalez (14-7 MMA, 0-2 UFC) via standing rear naked choke at 2:17 of the first round.
The finish came with McKinney in backpack position. Gonzalez fought unsuccessfully with his hands when McKinney put his hand under his chin. The two fighters leaned to the side, but did not fall. The signal sounded and referee Chris Tognoni intervened.
After the fight, McKinney struck iron when it was hot as he called out rising superstar Paddy Pimblett, who last defeated Jordan Leavitt on July 23.
“Paddy “Paddy, where are you?” McKinney said. “Let’s take it.”
With this win, McKinney maintains his 100 percent record. He has two submissions and one knockout in the UFC, and in March he lost by technical knockout to Drew Dober. Meanwhile, Gonzalez fails again, losing for the second time under the UFC banner.
