At La Celeste, Luis Suarez, Diego Godin and Edinson Cavani face another attempt at World Cup glory as a new generation of extremely talented players emerge.

As far as South Korea is concerned, it’s all about one man: Son Heung Min. The Tottenham superstar has recovered from multiple fractures to his cheekbone to be ready for the World Cup (he will wear a face shield) and the hope of the nation rests on his shoulders.

Key storylines, players to keep an eye on

Uruguay have reached the play-offs in each of the last three tournaments but lost in the quarter-finals to eventual champions France in 2018. As for Suarez, Godin and Cavani, can they put in another gigantic effort to bypass Uruguay? in the final stages? The likes of Rodrigo Bentancur, Federico Valverde and Darwin Nunez are the new generation that will take center stage in the coming years. Portugal and Ghana (who are keen to avenge 2010) are also in their group, so Uruguay will need three points against South Korea.

For South Korea, it all depends on Heung Min Sung being healthy enough to make a big impact in this World Cup. They know that Portugal and Uruguay prefer to come out of their group, but if this Korean side can stay solid defensively (Napoli’s Kim Min-jae is leading the defense and having a great season), they know Son (if he’s in full shape) ) can win the game in a fraction of a second. This is the hope they cling to as they aim to leave the group for the first time since 2010.

As Group C favorites Argentina lost to Saudi Arabia earlier in the day, both Mexico and Poland were desperate to win the 2022 World Cup opener at the 974 Stadium in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday, but neither side scored a single goal.

WATCH FULL MATCH REPLAY

Robert Lewandowski had the best goal-scoring chance of the game from 12 yards, but 37-year-old goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa blocked the Poland captain in the 58th minute. Lewandowski’s penalty attempt was poor quality at best, with an easy high to save and no great power.

The draw means that in order to qualify from the group, Mexico and Poland (or both) need to beat Saudi Arabia, currently top of the group, and score at least one point against Argentina.

Key storylines, players to keep an eye on

At various points in qualifying, Tata came under intense pressure as many fans doubted he would still be in charge if/when Mexico took the field in Qatar. Here is a positive review of Mexico’s recent performances in the World Cup: seven tournaments in a row, seven times in a row they left the group stage. And here comes the negative twist: seven eliminations in a row in the 1/8 finals; zero matches in the quarter-finals; 0 out of 7 after losing to Brazil in 2018. Alexis Vega could be the next Mexican star to make the jump to Europe and possibly the Premier League with a strong run at the World Cup. A number of European clubs, including Mexican star Raul Jimenez’s Wolves, are reportedly showing interest in the 24-year-old Guadalajara striker.

As for Poland, it will play back-to-back World Cups in 2022 after missing back-to-back tournaments in 2010 and 2014. They were eliminated from the group after two games in 2018 before winning in their farewell match. in the 3rd round. For many of the stars the world has become so familiar with in recent years, this will be their last hurray as Lewandowski (34), Kamil Glick (34), Kamil Grosicki (34), Grzegorz Krychowiak (32) come close to finishing internationally. There are 414 experience points between them at a very high level. Poland has not participated in the World Cup playoffs since 1986, coincidentally in Mexico.

Cristiano Ronaldo has officially become a free agent after agreeing to terminate his contract with Manchester United, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday.

In a brief statement, Manchester United closed the book on what turned out to be an ugly, legacy-changing reunion and a second chapter with Ronaldo.

“The club thanks him for his tremendous contribution during his two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 matches, and wishes him and his family all the best for the future,” the statement said.

“Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to achieve success on the pitch.”

Ronaldo finally spoke about his attempts to leave Manchester United and after several months of silence could not resist.

Speaking with Piers MorganRonaldo lashed out at Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, the club and his staff for not letting him leave this summer.

Ronaldo, 37, has been out of United’s last two games before the World Cup since losing 3-1 to Aston Villa last weekend due to illness. I think we can now read between the lines and speculate that this could be related to this interview.

Manchester United responded to the interview with the statement below.
