USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie rankings, March 7: Jon Jones returns to the top

John Jones returned, and again he has UFC gold around his waist.

At UFC 285, Jones made his heavyweight debut against Cyril Gein compete for the vacant title. The fight didn’t make it out of the first round as Jones finished off Gein. with guillotine, walking away virtually unscathed with the heavyweight championship. Jones’ return also marks his return to the heavyweight division and to the top of the men’s lists regardless of weight class.

The co-main event of the pay-per-view in Las Vegas caused a massive shake-up in the women’s rankings. Alexa Grasso made an incredible upset Valentina Shevchenko to win the women’s flyweight title, went down in history as the first woman from Mexico hold UFC gold. Grasso’s win propelled her to the top of the divisional rankings and also placed her in the top 10 women in the weight class.
