USVNT: The team kicked off their new year with a massive 4-0 victory over New Zealand, with all goals coming in the second half. Head coach Vlatko Andonovski originally named a 24-player squad for the training camp and used 16 players in the first game. Forward Ashley Hatch was unavailable for Tuesday’s game with a light kick. Mallory Swanson and Trinity Rodman had strong individual performances, with Swanson scoring two goals and Rodman providing two assists.

Lynn Williams returned to the lineup after a 10-month absence due to hamstring surgery, but scored a goal in her first game with the team. The second leg against New Zealand could give more time to players back in the pool, including defender Emily Sonnett, who didn’t show up for Tuesday’s game. The team will want to develop their electric game in the second half after a rambling and slow start in the first 45 minutes.

New Zealand: The team did a good job of crushing any central game for the USWNT. Gaby Rennie and Ava Collins, two players in the U.S. student systems, were able to disrupt the center passes but failed to mount any meaningful attack for the Ferns. Head coach Zytka Klimkova is likely to rotate some players due to the rapidly changing situation. New Zealand captain and Angel City FC defenseman Ali Riley got the start in Wellington. She can once again secure the backline and will need support if the team attempts to line up from the backline on Friday.

USWNT vs New Zealand Prediction

The USWNT will want to play the deciding game to close the series and this time around it could score some goals in the first half. Choose: USWNT 5, New Zealand 0.
